Normally all I ask of my friends and fam is to BYO a bottle of wine! Today is a bit different.
I would dearly love you to take a minute to support this cause, the 200km Walk. This weekend, I will join the 200km Walk team from Harrietville to Bright to raise money for the Victorian Palliative Care Program (the VPPCP) at The Royal Children’s Hospital.
As you may know, I work at The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation, Melbourne. At the moment, I am working with one of the most kind-hearted and giving groups of people I have ever met. And that is saying something. Working for a charity, kind-hearted people are plentiful :o)
Liat Harrower, in particular, just amazes me. She is a mother of four kids (aged 27 – 12), and also Mitchell, her son who died of a rare and incurable disease when he was 7 years old. Liat cared for Mitchell day and night during his illness until he passed away in 2008. The loss of a child is a tragedy that many people wouldn’t have the strength to deal with, but for Liat the memory of Mitchell fuels her desire to raise funds and awareness about the group of children for which there is no cure; children who have life-limiting conditions.
Liat’s experiences during Mitchell’s illness opened her eyes to how hard it is for families with critically ill children to get enough support. In her opinion, the team at the VPPCP, who provided her son with care and support during his final year, is remarkable. Liat said to me the other day: “If it was not for the services provided through the Victorian Paediatric Palliative Care Program, it would not be possible for families to spend such precious time with their child.”
Personally, I am only taking part in a couple of days of this mammoth walk, but through this page, you can choose to support the whole amazing team that are undertaking this endurance walk. Part of my job at the RCH Foundation is to support fundraisers where I can, and in this case, I am passionate about helping Liat and her team get the word out and raise funds.
If you know someone who has lost a child, or even if you can imagine it, you know that this is an such an important issue to support. All funds donated go directly to the VPPCP to support families with children who are not going to survive their illness.
If you can give a little, it would be brilliant. Whatever you can… Every little bit helps.
Thank you,
Love Stephanie xx

MORE INFO ABOUT THE CAUSE
Despite major advances in the capacity to prevent and cure serious conditions of infancy and childhood, there remains a group of children for which cure is not possible. This charity walk is for those children and their families. Funds raised by supporters of the 200km Walk go to the Victorian Paediatric Palliative Care program (VPPCP) at The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, a consultation-liaison team who facilitate the care of children with palliative care needs and support their families.
